You will note that there has been a few changes here at the Broken Lady. I've discovered that their are some very important parts to being a survivor of Domestic Violence.

The two important parts of being a survivor are parts that I've separated into 2 sections - The Broken Lady Part and the Lady Of Courage Part.

The Broken Lady Part

One very important part is the feelings that are there when the discovery that your whole life has changed by living with an abuser. More will be changing when you leave the abuser.  Even while you are still with him, you feel the pain (not just of the physically abuse) but of the loss of your dreams, hopes and your heart.  In this part, you feel broken, damaged goods.
There are many more feelings you will experience and I've written about many of them in my poetry and in my story.

The Lady Of Courage Part

The second very important part is the healing. In this part of
your life, things are happening. Sometimes at first there is confusion, shame and many more emotions. You are still tied to the abuser and suffering the after-effects. As you start to heal, you soon discover the fantastic feeling of courage.
You discover the strength in you that you thought had gone.

You will discover so much more in healing. You will discover that you are okay. That the problem was never with you but with the abuser. With this enlightement, you soon discover a part of you that you thought had died....your courage.

Courage to stay away from the abuser.
Many return out of fear or the mental abuse that made them feel they had no other options.
Courage to change your life, courage to find who you are again.  
Courage to re-discover the joys that life has to offer.
Courage to heal.
Courage to become who you were before all of the abuse.
Courage to dream dreams of happines.

Why use both names?

I chose to use both names on this site to show the growth and healing that can happen after you leave.

In the Broken Lady Section, the poetry and the story of my life show the Broken Lady Part for a while. You will see poems about my feelings, the hurt, lack of trust and more.


In the Lady of Courage Section, the poetry and the story of my life show the Lady Of Courage Part. The shift in poetry and in my story will show you the discoveries and the happiness that wait those of you who choose to leave the abuser and start a new life.

So please read all of this site. Watch the change in the poetry and in my story. See the healing process and watch as the courage and strength in you start to grow.

How will I know when these changes happen?

In the Poetry Index Page, it will be noted for the poems that come from what section.

In My Story, it will also be noted from what section they are from. So please enjoy the site and if you are being abused or know someone who is, please show them this site. Let them know that there is hope.  Let them know that they are not alone.
